Preschool Storybook Theatre Afternoon Camp

Play pretend this summer at this one week afternoon drama camp specially designed for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Taught by certified educator Samantha Kulish and preschool teacher Debra Poruban, this camp is a wonderful introduction to drama and movement. Each afternoon, students will step into their favorite storybooks and bring them to life! As well as playing pretend, students will also take part in fun-filled theatre exercises and movement games. “Storybook Theatre Camp” culminates in a staged production on the last day of camp in our theater for family and friends to attend. Let your little star shine!

Have a blast in this whirlwind 1 week camp where you will improve your singing and theatre dance skills while you prepare to perform solos and medleys from some of Broadway’s greatest shows. Each student will come away with a 1 minute audition song perfect for professional and school show auditions! (Campers are not required to sing a solo at the performances but are encouraged to do so.) Work with musical directors Cheryl Kemeny and Joe Santaniello on vocal delivery, song interpretation and gesture in our air-conditioned studios at Crystal Theatre at Ben Franklin Center. Char Fromentin of Dance Dimensions is back as choreographer along with Stage manager, Debra Poruban and various college assistants.

This large-cast Crystal Theatre classic musical is a perennial favorite with our students and audiences alike!
Based on the famous Greek myth, the show features jealous gods and goddesses, nymphs and monsters, heroes and villains, queens and princesses! Join Perseus, Danae and Andromeda on their quest for a more just world.
Along the way, they are aided by Athena, Hermes and Nike as they face Medusa and the Gorgons and the infamous Sea Monster.
The show is loaded with great parts, comic and serious, and exciting music from rock to classic Broadway styles. Have fun while enhancing your acting, singing and stage movement skills this summer! Taught by author/composer Cheryl Kemeny, director Samantha Kulish, choreographer Char Fromentin, stage manager Debra Poruban & college assistants in our air-conditioned studios at Crystal Theatre at Ben Franklin Center.

Learn some valuable lessons while you perform in this hilarious musical version of Aesop's fables. In this version, a group of elementary school children reenact some of Aesop's famous fables, such as The Tortoise and the Hare, Androcles and the Lion and Country Mouse and City Mouse in order to prove to their teacher that they do know about morals and friendship. Your child will also enhance his or her theatrical skills with theater games, improvisation, statues and learn basic theater terminology all while developing his or her self-expression and self-confidence.Taught by Samantha Kulish, Char Fromentin, Debra Poruban and various college assistants.

Get the best of both worlds at our popular multi-arts camp which takes place each year at the beautiful Cranbury Park. Classes take place both inside the mansion and out in the park. Before lunch, campers rotate to various multi-arts classes: Scene Study, Contemporary Dance & Watercolors. Then, both the Younger Group and Older Group have lunch together under the picnic pavilion. After lunch, campers rehearse for the show that will be performed on the last day of camp: Broadway Mash-up!- a compilation of Pop/Broadway medleys, solos, dance and contemporary scenes. The last 2 days of camp are spent at our Ben Franklin Theatre in order to practice on stage with the set, microphones and costumes. Taught by: Alexandrea Kemeny, Cheryl Kemeny (musical theatre), Mariner Pezza (watercolors), Joe Santaniello (Scene Study) and performing arts college and high school teaching assistants. Learn the basics of “bel canto” singing with international opera star and teacher Maria Teresa Uribe Reddemann. Each student brings 2 songs of their choice to class and will sing the best of the 2 at the recital on Friday, 7/14 at 7PM. Beginners vocal technique will be developed through audio-visual material, scales and songs. Students will learn how to breathe and support the singing voice, how to open the mouth and create a good sound and how the body takes in air and converts it to sound. Advanced students will improve your breathing technique, develop better legato, dynamics and expression of text. Advanced students please prepare 1 Haydn or Mozart song and a free choice appropriate aria.

Alexandrea & Cheryl Kemeny’s big musical version of this classic fairy tale is fun for all! Complete with 7 dwarves –one of them being an overworked sister named “Frumpy”-, a Talking Mirror, Hymey the Huntsman, Queen Vanity-the wicked stepmother-, her spy the Raven, singing Nightingales and chipmunks plus an Oracle and her wacky assistant this well-known tale has many roles, big and small!
Your child will also enhance his or her theatrical skills with theater games, improvisation, statues and learn basic theater terminology all while developing self-expression and self-confidence. Try something new and unusual this summer! Learn authentic Hungarian and gypsy dances with master Hungarian dance teacher Tibor Paar.
Campers will learn the chorus music and dances from the musical Hungarian Nights and perform with the Hungarian Ligeti Dance Group from Budapest and the high school/college cast of leads in the weekend production of Hungarian Nights. The Hungarian dancers will also be assisting the campers during class.
This is a wonderful opportunity to not only sing and dance but make international friends. Singing and music will be taught by Crystal Theatre Artistic Director, Cheryl Kemeny. Be a part of this fun, dramatic and exciting international musical about gypsies, vampires and a love that spanned centuries!
