After 12 years of performing gypsy-style, Crystal Theatre decided it was time to establish a permanent performance space. Parent volunteers joined with the directors to pursue this goal. After many moths of searching, Crystal Theatre has reached an agreement to occupy the theatre in the closed Ben Franklin Junior High School located on Flax Hill Road. The rest of the school has been taken over by NEON.
The City has agreed to lease the theatre to Crystal Theatre for 25 years, with an option to renew for 10 years. Most important, Norwalk has awarded Crystal Theatre a grant of $50,000 to be used for renovations. This grant will legitimize the the group's efforts in the eyes of potential corporate and private benefactors who will be crucial to the fundraising process.
Some of the benefits of space include:
- A downtown location easily accessible
- An established theatre that, when completed, will have between 250-300 seats
- A complete basement that is in the process of being renovated for rehearsal space, set design, costume storage, etc.

Efforts are now focusing on fund raising. Crystal Theatre needs to raise at least $1 million to restore the theatre to prime condition. We are now drawing up plans to approach corporations and philanthropic organizations, and this is were we need your help. If you feel you know of a potential donor, work for a company with a matching grants program, etc., please email CHERYL KEMENY or call her at (203) 847-4850
