So, they have a contest: the best artwork wins! Each family draws a picture with their one color, but something always seems to be missing. That’s when they get a Bright Idea! All of the crayon families color a picture TOGETHER and the results are FANTASTIC! Musically Directed by Laszlo Balazs, Written and Directed by Sally Szabo-Lombardo.

Back by popular demand - Crystal Arts – your child’s one-stop-shop for all things art! Join us at the wonderfully air-conditioned Ben Franklin Theatre to put on a full-scale show, make watercolors and explore multi-medium painting, and up your acting and singing skills, all in a carnival-tent-like atmosphere. This year’s show is “Mother Goose Retires”, written by Crystal Theatre co-founder Cheryl Kemeny. Mother Goose land is in an uproar! After a long and illustrious career Mother Goose decides to retire and informs the inhabitants that they must hold an election to determine her successor. Old King Cole, Mary Contrary, the Queen of Hearts and Humpty Dumpty all vie for the office as their supporters busily campaign for their favorites. The local press follows the proceedings with breathless coverage until the candidates finally learn that they must all work together to insure the continued health and success of Mother Goose Land. All your favorite Mother Goose characters stage a big farewell concert for Mother Goose as she heads off to a beach house in the Bahamas for a well-deserved rest. Learn to sing, dance and act as you have fun putting on this fully-costumed, lively musical. No experience necessary and everyone gets a part! Taught by writer and co-founder Cheryl Kemeny with veteran director and pre-school teacher Sally Szabo-Lombardo and assisted by co-founder and retired Rowayton Elementary School music teacher Alexandrea Kemeny.

Have a blast this summer with the best-selling Broadway musical based on the classic TV sitcom, “The Addams Family”! Wednesday Addams, subject of the recent Netflix hit TV show “Wednesday”, and the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family whom her parents have never met. Mayhem ensues as Wednesday and Gomez must keep the secret from the family matriarch, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Featured parts abound for both those newer to the game and those with many shows under their belt. Directed by Margaret Jackins, veteran theatre director of 22 years at Creative Summer at the Mead School and writer/director of “Sally the Scourge” and “Puss n’ Boots” and musically directed by Laszlo Balazs.

Optional Audition Boot-Camp: Saturday, July 7th from 1-3pm – get a headstart on learning your audition material and get to know your castmates & counselors! All students get a part, and audition material will be available ahead of time for everyone. We will still be going over the audition material on the first day of camp, so the bootcamp is purely optional.

Bring light to dark places, replace hate with love, and learn tolerance for those different than you in this summer’s one-week show camp “The Maccabees”! Based on the story of the Jewish revolutionists who fought for freedom against their Greek and Syrian rulers, this one-act musical features memorable roles, tuneful melodies, and powerful lessons. Great for beginners as well as those with many shows under the belt, Cheryl Kemeny’s timeless story about a group’s quest for justice remains as relevant as ever. Aside from substantial parts and numerous solo opportunities, campers will see the “behind-the-scenes” of how shows work – creating props and scenic materials, discussing lighting & sound design, and moving the set themselves! Staged and musically directed by Laszlo Balazs, with choreographer Sally Szabo-Lombardo and assistants.
